The Anti-Taurus Mountains (Aladağlar in Turkish) form the central part of the Taurus Mountains, which traverse southern Turkey, and rise in the cities of Niğde, Kayseri, and Adana. The southern slopes have a Mediterranean climate, while the northern slopes are dominated by a terrestrial climate, where Scots pine, cedar, larch, and Taurus fir are prevalent. Steppe species of the Iran-Turan plant community are common on these slopes.
While Kızılkaya, the highest point of the Anti-Taurus, reaches an elevation of 3,771 meters, the mountain range boasts more than 50 peaks exceeding 3,000 meters. In the Anti-Taurus Mountains, melting snow in spring creates numerous lakes, but most of these evaporate and disappear during the summer. Only a few groundwater-fed lakes remain in the Anti-Taurus Mountains throughout the summer months. These lakes, as well as the Kapuzbaşı Waterfall, located within the province of Kayseri, are well worth a visit.
On the Anti-Taurus Mountains, Aladağlar National Park covers approximately 55 hectares and offers a variety of hiking trails. In addition to trekking routes that run parallel to the ski slopes, there are also steep routes leading towards the summit. The best months for trekking in Aladağlar, which is quite cold in winter, are June, July, August, and September.
It is possible to find campsites in various valleys of the Anti-Taurus Mountains, where the temperature difference between day and night can exceed 30 degrees Celsius. Among the campsites mentioned, Sarımemedin Yurdu, Sokullupınar, and Yedigöller are the most well-known and frequently visited.
